Habujo

Habujo is a web-app that comes from my own frustration with to-do and productivity apps. I had used TODOist, Notion and other planning and journaling methods in the past. I had been years using the bullet journal method in physical notebooks, which was a great way of being mindful about my day, tasks and thoughts.

That's when I decided to build an app from scratch. A minimal, calm and chronological bullet journal that makes the user type their tasks, events and thoughts as the day elapses.

Habujo minimally combines the best of three methods: bullet journal, atomic habits method and the organized minimalism of Notion. The App consists of 3 pages:

Day Log Through the bullet journal method, log tasks, events and notes as you the day elapses. Plan future days and keep an eye of the unresolved tasks from the past. Postponing tasks feels more intentional and mindful.

Collections Plan your next project. Keep your university tasks organized. Make a library of recipes, year goals or backlogs. Everything that doesn't belong in the day log goes here, from thoughts to ideas, tasks and structured projects.

Habits Create and maintain habits in a mindful way. Stack habits, place them throughout the day and make sure you keep up with them through streaks and a visual matrix.

The name Habujo comes from three words: Habits + Bullet + Journal The logotype is a minimal orange square with the 3 distinctive log symbols of the daily log: - Event ○ Task * Note

The default font of the app was set to an open source, minimal and SaaS font called Switzer, which is the same as the brand identity. However, as bullet journals are mostly written by hand, I decided to create my own font and create a theme.

Habujo Handwritten is an open-source font created by my, which looks exactly like my own handwritting. I wanted to give a personal touch to the app, so I drew a couple of cute clouds that float in the margins of the day log.

I decided to include a third theme with a mono font as I felt like it would be a more haptic experience to make it look as if ít was written in an old-school typewritter. The font is JetBrains Mono, also open-source.

An app is never complete without a dark mode. Easier to the eye, specially at night, the app lets the user either toggle between light/dark or set it to system mode. This way, the app automatically switches to dark mode after sunset.

As the app evolves, it wil further be optimized for phones. The plan is to eventually release it in the App Store and Play Store.
